'Whoso findeth a wife, findeth a good thing and obtaineth favor of the Lord.' - Proverbs 18:22, as written by Solomon

the promise
It was a cold night in August when our wild romance was taking shape. Fremont, California was the scene of the crime ... I was a young youth pastor intern at Mission Way Baptist Church, a small church on Mission Boulevard. The Rev. Danny Daniels was the pastor - and he had seen firsthand how 'interesting' my love life was. He counseled me, somewhat, on my ex-fiancee', telling me he didn't feel like she was the one God had for me. And he and the minister of music, Clay Westcott, encouraged me as I encouraged them. Hay, I was just a 22-year-old man of God, but I knew I wanted a woman of God to complement me.
So ... one cold night in August, 1995, Larry Perez of Alder Ave. Baptist Church in Fremont dropped me off at my 'trailer' behind Mission Way Baptist after fellowshipping with his family across town. Larry's a prayer warrior - he is a good musician, minister of the Gospel among other things - and he prayed with me. As I opened the Dodge van's door, feeling the cold Bay area winds race across my legs, I felt his hand grab my arm. It was wild - it was cool in the van - yet his hand was HOT. And when I turned to look at Larry, he was looking through me - like I wasn't even there. I closed the door and looked at him. He put his hand in the center of my chest And he said 'Thus saith the Lord.' Lemme tell you something - when someone says 'Thus saith the Lord,' you better be SURE the Lord has TOLD YOU SOMETHING. He could strike you down for doing that - but it's awesome to be used to deliver a message from the Lord. It's even wilder to be on the receiving end of it.
I will never forget his words to me: 'Thus saith the Lord - I have heard your prayers for a wife and I want to tell you - I have someone for you who will be the desire of your heart. I am preparing her for you - and you for her as well. Please be patient, for I love you and am preparing your wife for you. Be of good courage, for I have heard your prayers. Thus saith the Lord.'
I looked at Larry ... my heart nearly stopped ... my wife. I couldn't BELIEVE what was about to go down. Me ... meeting this awesome, virtuous woman of God!
BUT ... the wait for her was hard. Difficult. I 'expected' the Almighty to give me my 'rib' soon. It would be soon when I met her, but I was most definitely in for one of the wildest rides of my life. <-- Click "life" to continue
